The new device of Huawei not only has a distinctive design but also surpasses the flagships of competitors in many respects. Three Leica cameras for all occasions, a productive and economical 7-nanometer processor – what else can surprise a top-end gadget?
Glass and metal
Minimal frames around the display, curved edges, a small cutout at the top of the screen and glass that plays in the light from the back – the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is difficult to confuse with other phones.
Although the kit comes with a silicone case, the manufacturer took care of those who do not want to hide this beauty behind a polymer overlay. The back surface of the smartphone is corrugated, which prevents the glass miracle from slipping out of hands. No matter how funny it sounds, it is important precisely in a frameless device – the survival of the display depends on it.
As for the screen, it is really gorgeous: juicy, with perfect black, high contrast and excellent margin of brightness. Moderately bent edges do not cause irritation, and there are no false positives. Movies in the format of the extended dynamic range HDR10 look great here.
Display resolution seems even redundant for everyday applications. Who needs extraordinary clarity in the messenger window? Therefore, the system provides intelligent screen control. Where it is important, the smartphone displays the image with the maximum resolution, and where it is easy to neglect excessive detail, it reduces it for the sake of energy saving. The silhouette of the “monobrow” can be hidden programmatically by checking the corresponding box. The option activates the black background on the display in the desired area so that it merges completely with the frame of the case and gives the illusion of no cut-out.
The AMOLED matrix made it possible to implement the function of the always-on screen. It without prejudice to autonomy shows a screensaver in sleep mode with time, date, percentage of charge and important notifications.
There is something to surprise
New Huawei has non-trivial chips. For example, if you put another phone on the back of the Mate 20 Pro, you can recharge it like that. Of course, it must support Qi wireless charging.
But the fingerprint scanner on the screen is a less amazing feature. But how pleasant it is to touch the dark display and see the glow from the triggered fingerprint sensor. At this moment you think: “Yes, the future has come.”
It is noteworthy that the sound of the main speaker in the device exits through the hole of the Type-C connector – while the sound is surprisingly good. When watching a video in landscape orientation, a conversational speaker is also connected – a stereo pair is obtained.
As for the fresh Android 9, you can’t immediately feel all its advantages, because the system is “hidden” behind the shell of EMUI 9, which itself has grown almost to a separate OS. But everything that is stated in the latest Android, works here. Only in this case you also have the advantages of a branded shell. Among them are gestures, customization of the navigation panel, themes, screen recording, antivirus, application cloning function and many other useful features.
An advanced face unlock system is supported. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro, unlike smartphones of a lower class, has a full-fledged infrared sensor that allows Face Unlock to work in complete darkness.
Triple Leica
The main trump card of the Mate 20 Pro is a triple camera. But it’s not about the quirks of marketing and unnecessary features. Each “eye” in the triple module is self-sufficient, has its own purpose. One camera is the main one. This is a standard high-aperture lens for maximum quality in all lighting conditions. The other is a super wide-angle. Everything is clear: the angle is wider, which means that more space can be captured in the frame field. Suitable for landscapes or shooting in confined spaces when something does not fit into the frame, but you can’t move away from the object. A wide-angle lens is also suitable for working with perspective – straight lines are noticeably distorted at the edges of the frame, which gives an interesting result. And finally, the third lens is a telephoto. This “peephole” provides a triple optical zoom and does not introduce geometric distortions,
In the camera application interface, you can instantly switch between the three modules using the zoom control. With a value of 0.6x, a wide-angle camera is activated, 1x – main, 3x – telephoto. At 5x and higher, digital zoom is already enabled with poor quality.
As befits the flagship, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has improved photos using artificial intelligence (recognizes up to 150 scenes), manual professional mode and RAW support. Next Generation Chipset – First Among Android
The Mate 20 Pro is the debut Android smartphone with a 7-nanometer processor. So, you should rely on the highest performance without overheating the device and improved autonomy. The maximum clock frequency of the eight-core Huawei Kirin 980 installed in the device is 2.6 GHz. The graphics chip is Mali-G76.
Actually, the flagship of Huawei fully justifies all the hopes. The speed of operation is not satisfactory both in applications and in games. In WoT, with the maximum detail of graphics – 60 fps. PUBG doesn’t even have the slightest lag.
40- watt make-up
Despite the moderate dimensions, the smartphone has a battery capacity of 4200 mAh. It takes 1 hour 10 minutes to fully charge it if you use the 40-watt charger from the kit (Huawei SuperCharge technology). In this case, in the first 15 minutes, you can recharge the gadget from 0 to 33%.
After a complete “tank refueling”, an economical OLED screen, decent battery capacity and a 7-nanometer processor (energy-efficient in idle time) give very decent indicators of autonomy. So, with mixed use you get one and a half to two days of work. And, it should be noted, all this without the use of aggressive energy saving, which, if desired, can be enabled in the settings.
