Samsung’s flagship smartphone
The high computing power of modern smartphones, allowing them to argue even with computers, in the end, could not but lead to the fact that they did not turn themselves into computers. But no matter how powerful the hardware of the device was, it was impossible to bring this idea to life without a fully functional operating system. Fortunately, Samsung found a way out and released the Linux on DeX application, which literally allows you to connect a monitor to the flagship smartphones and work with them like with full-fledged PCs.

The history of DeX began with the dock of the same name, which Samsung introduced along with the Galaxy Note 8. It was possible to connect peripheral devices, including a monitor, mouse and keyboard. However, low demand for the docking station made it clear to the company that the ability to work in PC mode can be made software. So there was a Linux on DeX application that can be installed on a smartphone and, connecting to an external monitor, uses the desktop OS without any difficulties.
Samsung Linux enabled devices
Currently, Linux on DeX supports the following devices:
- Galaxy S9 / S9 +
- Galaxy Note 9
- Galaxy S10e / S10 / S10 + / S10 5G
- Galaxy Tab S4
- Galaxy Tab S5e
How to start Linux
To turn a Samsung smartphone or tablet into a Linux PC, do the following:
- Download the Linux on DeX application from the Galaxy Apps catalog;
- Log in by entering the login “dextop” and password “secret” (without quotes);
- Download the Linux image, following the instructions on the screen, or download it to your computer from here , and then put it in the memory of your Galaxy device;
- Connect an external monitor and start the Linux on DeX environment.
If you wish, you can connect a wireless keyboard and mouse. However, you can use the touch screen of the smartphone as a touchpad. And thanks to the support of 64-bit applications, you can run a huge amount of programs to work on an impromptu computer and not feel any restrictions.
